Over the last week the prices for cabbage in Ukraine again subsided.
If you have previously cabbage showed a tendency to increase prices, the cost is reduced.
According to experts, over the past few days the cabbage in the wholesale markets of the country reached one of the lowest levels. Now this product is proposed for 1,2-1,5 UAH/kg, and the average cost fell by 20%. When compared to the same period last year, but now the Kale is two times cheaper.
The expert of the fruit and vegetable market in Eastern Europe Tatiana Getman notes that the reduction of cabbage in November – a traditional phenomenon. The fact that the harvest season, some entrepreneurs continues until the end of autumn, and sometimes even in December.
“In those seasons when the crop of cabbage is not high enough, prices begin to rise closer to the middle of winter, on New year’s eve or in January. So it is possible that this season the market situation will develop in a similar scenario,” — said the Hetman.
In her words, to accurately predict when prices will start to rise and how significant will the rise in price of cabbage this season, is very difficult. This is because the majority of Ukrainian entrepreneurs do not have a clear plan for the implementation of the crop contained in the store.
The expert said that quite often during peak demand and rising prices, employers no longer sell sprouts. Then dealers and retailers begin to compensate for the shortage of supply of imports.
“Therefore, we have a unforeseen price fluctuations. That is, after substantial growth there comes a sudden downturn, and it is known, is the main cause of losses, especially from dealers,” — says Tatiana Getman.
According to the expert, Ukraine is now enough capacity to store cabbage and other vegetables grown on Ukrainian fields. And products sufficient to meet the domestic market. The expert also notes that the reduction in the total amount of storage is not a guarantee that in April, the price will be significantly higher than, for example, in December.
