In the United States will have its first system to intercept Intercontinental missiles

The test is designed to test the effectiveness of ground-based missile defense system.

On Tuesday, may 30, the U.S. military will test the system to intercept Intercontinental ballistic missiles.

As the newspaper notes, the decision was made amid rising tensions over the weapons programme of North Korea.

It is also reported that the planned test is the first time that the US military tries to intercept an Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Earlier, the us military conducted the test only to intercept slower medium-range missiles.

According to the Agency’s missile defense experts launch the interceptor missile from an underground silo Vandenberg AFB, California, on the mock ICBM launched from a test site Ronald Reagan in the Marshall Islands. The interceptor must destroy the target over the Pacific ocean.

“We are conducting increasingly complex test scenarios as the program develops. Testing against the threat of ICBMs is the next step in this process”, – said the representative of the missile defense Agency Christopher Johnson.

The test is designed to test the effectiveness of ground-based missile defense system to cruising flight (Ground-based Midcourse Defense, GMD).
