Thus, the Senate Committee on the armed forces called upon to develop a new program for the creation of offensive missiles, land-based, and also to prohibit the use of Pentagon software of the Russian company. In addition, the Pentagon will have to report to legislators on the Russian hybrid war.

The Committee version of the appropriations bill for the national defense for the year 2018 also provides for the allocation of assistance to Ukraine in the field of security in the amount of $ 500 million to fight Pro-Russian separatists, including the supply of lethal weapons.

It also extends the current ban on direct cooperation of the Pentagon with the Russian military, introduced after the annexation of Ukrainian Crimea in 2014.

In addition, the Committee approved the allocation of $ 4.6 billion in the European initiative of restraint – Pentagon project aimed at strengthening security on the Eastern flank of Europe.

The Committee identified these efforts as one of the reasons its tough stance against Moscow.

“The Committee believes that the United States must take further action to deter Russian aggression, whether abroad or in cyberspace. Russia continues to occupy Crimea, to destabilize the situation in Ukraine is threatening our allies (in NATO. – Ed.) violates the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF) and supports the Assad regime in Syria,” reads the description of the bill.

The bill authorizes the allocation of $ 65 million for a programme of research and development of medium-range missiles, land-based, to begin to close the gap, resulting from the violation by Russia of the INF Treaty, but this was not a breach of the agreement by the United States.
