Researchers from the University of Michigan showed transparent material, which is capable of collecting solar energy.
Scientists claim that such panels in the future it is able to provide US about 40% of the required energy.
Thin material like plastic, it is able to generate electricity, while not disturbing review. The technology is the use of organic molecules that absorb invisible light waves. Panels of such material can be used as Windows in buildings.
“The transparent solar cells are the wave of the future for new solar systems. These devices can provide the same level of electricity as traditional solar cells. This will provide additional functionality to improve the efficiency of buildings, cars and mobile electronics”, the scientist explains Richard Lunt from Michigan state University.
The effectiveness of the transparent panels today is only 5%. Traditional solar panels demonstrate an efficiency of from 15 to 40%. But the researchers insist that this figure can be improved.
“We are working on transparent solar panels only for five years. Ultimately, this technology offers a promising way to obtain a cheap, widespread solar power on small and large surfaces that were not previously available for batteries,” added Lunt.
