American authorities were able to catch a dangerous criminal.
In the United States to prison sentenced 81-year-old Robert Gentile, nicknamed “Chef”, which is considered the only extant member of largest theft of artworks in the history of America. It happened in 1990 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner in Boston.
27 years ago, criminals stole from the Boston Museum of paintings by Rembrandt, Edouard Manet, Johannes Vermeer and Edgar Degas. The total value of stolen amounted to $ 500 million. March 18, 1990, the Museum has been infiltrated by attackers in police uniform and carried with him thirteen works of art, which are still not found. The identity of the perpetrators, the police managed to establish only in 2013, their names, however, were not disclosed.
In 2015, the FBI started an investigation against Robert Gentile, who is suspected of involvement in the Heist of the century. In the house of a pensioner found a list stolen from the Museum masterpieces, indicating the appraised value. In addition, the test on the lie detector showed that the Gentile with 99% probability was lying when he denied during interrogation that knows where the stolen works of art.
In 2016, the authorities again searched the home of a Gentile, but again are unable to find any evidence linking the American to the theft of paintings from the Boston Museum. But the FBI has managed to locate in the building an Arsenal of weapons, for possession of which “Chef” is judged today.
In early September, the American was found guilty of illegal possession of weapons. He faces three to six years in prison. The organizers of the independent investigation into the crime of the century claimed that the stolen works of art in the moment of absolute probability are in Northern Ireland. Some of the masterpieces are owned by the representatives of the Irish Republican army (IRA).
The investigation in this case continues.
