In the Kremlin commented on the referendum in Turkey

Russia respects the will of the Turkish people in a referendum, which ended in favor of Erdogan.

The Kremlin believes the Turkish referendum on extension of powers of incumbent President of Turkey’s internal affair of this country. This was stated press Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, Russia respects the will of the Turkish people.

“We treat this referendum as an exclusively internal matter of the Turkish Republic. We believe that we should respect the will of the Turkish people”, – said Peskov.

Also on a question of journalists, whether will congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Turkish counterpart, he said, “If you will take the telephone contacts of the President, President Erdogan, we will inform”.

The head of the electoral Commission of Turkey said that the results of the referendum are valid. The results of counting 99, 97% of ballots for amendments to the Constitution of Turkey expressed 51,41% (25 million 156 thousand 860) voted against 48,59% (23 million 777 thousand 14). The turnout in the referendum was 86%. The residents of the three largest cities of Turkey – Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir – voted against the amendments.

The result of the referendum the citizens of Turkey both welcomed and protested against it. The Republican people’s party demands a recount and said he would appeal against the results in 37% of the ballots.
