In the homeland of Mercedes and Porsche to get rid of diesel cars

Center for the automotive industry Germany decided to clean their streets from diesel engines.

Diesel scandal of Volkswagen that broke out in 2015, has resulted in a change not only in the automotive industry, but also the policy of the authorities. In February this year, the Federal administrative court of Germany ruled that cities can impose a ban on heavily polluting diesel vehicles to improve air quality. The first entitled have used Hamburg: the city has already banned cars below the Euro-6. Now the game entered Stuttgart.

So, the home of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, a local court ordered the municipality to develop a detailed plan to ban diesel cars, the motors which meet the Euro-4 standard and below. Innovation comes into force on 1 January of the following year.

Initially it was assumed that the restriction must touch and auto class Euro 5, but so far they “did not touch”. However, the authorities do not exclude that they may also be banned in January 2020.

The ban does not apply only to taxis, emergency services and buses. However, the city authorities claim to improve the environmental situation, it is necessary to take not only private cars but also public transport, gradually moving to electric cars.

According to official data, in Stuttgart and the surrounding region was 534 573 diesel vehicles, which account for 188 163 vehicle standards 1-4. Thus, the city needs to get rid of 1/3 of diesel cars, which is really serious step.
