In the footsteps of Buddhist pilgrims: a mysterious mountain of Koya-San. Photo

Mount koyasan is located in Wakayama Prefecture South of Osaka, Japan.

On the mountain there are numerous temples and monasteries the Buddhist school of Shingon, therefore it is a popular place of pilgrimage, and was included in the list of world heritage of UNESCO.

The dense forests that covered the mountain Koya-San, dotted with numerous paths, which are still used by the pilgrims.

Photographer Hugh Kinsella Cunningham passed on the route of pilgrimage of Buddhists who met and photographed on his journey the Holy places, ruins of religious buildings and tombs.
