In the EU, dissatisfied with the attitude of Ukrainians towards gays and Gypsies

Ukraine to combat xenophobia.

The Council of Europe advised the Ukrainian authorities to pay attention to the growth of xenophobia in society and to protect the most vulnerable groups of the population. This is stated in the report of the European Commission against racism and intolerance, which was published on Tuesday, September 19.

In turn, a target of racial discrimination in Ukraine, are Gypsies. The report says that Roma children are more often expelled from schools, more of them are being bullied and harassed by classmates. In addition, many of the Roma is a big challenge to identity documents.

In the Council of Europe pay attention that the Ukrainian strategy of protection and integration of ethnic minorities the Roma until 2020, adopted in 2013, has still not been funded.

Also, the authors of the report state that on the background of anti-Russian rhetoric, caused by the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia and the armed conflict in the Donbass, increased religious strife and tension between the different churches. Thus, in the East of Ukraine in the categories vulnerable to discrimination of the groups and added people.

“Refugees in Ukraine face significant challenges in their daily lives: they do not receive social benefits, have no access to social housing and courses of Ukrainian language”, – the report says.
