In Gurzuf the occupiers decided to demolish the Muslim cemetery “Gurzuf-Aziz” near the beach “Gurovsky stones” for the construction of a new building of children’s camp “Artek”.
“We are now talking about having to demolish the cemetery in Gurzuf. This is a serious and dramatic event, if it happens, it will be definitely an act of vandalism, it will be just the rudeness of the local authorities,” said historian Gulnara Bekirova.
“Gurzuf at the time of the 19th century – it was completely mono-ethnic Crimean Tatar village. This is a slap in the face to the whole Crimean Tatar people. It’s very scary when cemeteries are demolished, when you do not take into account the interests of the indigenous people, which was formed in the Crimea, and who lived just here, on this territory,” she added.
As the newspaper notes, the cemetery “Gurzuf-Aziz”, which is above the hill from the camp “Artek”, is in ruins since the deportation of Crimean Tatars to Central Asia.
