In Sweden decided to move to a new place the whole city. Photo

Authority of the city of Kiruna in Sweden decided to change the registration of citizens, to protect them from the impending inevitable disaster.

The fact is, that near the mine the whole town could sink into the ground. Located near a mine for the extraction of iron ore every year more and more deepens and expands. This has already caused the first cracks on the surface of the ground near people’s homes.

So, according to preliminary estimates of experts, the Swedish city of Kiruna have in stock about a hundred years to get out of this place. Local residents said that the “first bells” in the form of research specialists were in the 80-ies.

But then for some reason no one took seriously the inevitable catastrophe. The first cracks in the ground near the houses noticed in 2003. And recently, already serious was the question of what to do – to close the mine or move the city to a safe distance.

Mining company decided to fully Finance the relocation of residents and their houses that will cost more than a billion dollars.

I must say that the first houses began to move in the spring of this year. They were loaded on trucks and transported three kilometers to the East. According to the original plan, in the next 20-30 years, all 18 thousand people will have to be at a safe distance from the mine. Of course, simply transfer all the buildings and infrastructure to a new location will not work. Most of the buildings will be demolished, but the historic buildings will try to preserve.
