In Spain detained a group of Ukrainian sailors

Ukrainian citizens suspected of illegal activities.

The Department of consular service of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine confirmed appeared earlier in mass media information about the detention by police officers of Spain 11 Ukrainian sailors.

The corresponding statement published on the official website of the Department on the social network Facebook.

“In connection with appeals media to confirm information about the detention of the Spanish law enforcement agencies near the port of Almeria, the ship’s crew, whose members include 11 citizens of Ukraine. The detention occurred on the basis of the Vienna Convention against illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and with the consent of the flag state of the vessel. The reason for detention suspected of carrying prohibited cargo”, – stated in the message.

It is also noted that the Ukrainian Consul in Spain is in constant contact with the leadership of law enforcement agencies in the production of which is specified.

“The detained citizens of Ukraine provided as a public defender and a Russian translator. The results of the contact of the Consul with a lawyer established that the condition is satisfactory, complaints about conditions of detention there”, – underlined in the message.

Earlier, the Spanish newspaper El Mundo has informed that the southern coast of Spain were detained a merchant ship, which was carrying 18 tons of hashish. Were arrested 13 crew members, among whom 11 citizens of Ukraine and 2 of the citizen of Bulgaria.

The arrest occurred on August 8 near the town of Almeria, although the operation of the Spanish authorities began a week before.

A Spanish customs helicopter spotted the ship Lady Boss in the area where usually overload drugs. A merchant ship was under the flag of Comoros. On Board found 600 packages of hashish. According to preliminary estimates, it is 18 thousand.
