Russia ready to step up censorship in the country
The Commission of the Federation Council (upper house of the Russian Parliament) for the protection of the sovereignty and prevent interference in the internal Affairs of Russia made a list of the media whose activities may be restricted in Russia, which got CNN, “Voice of America” and “Radio Liberty”.
These measures were taken in response to the possible registration in the United States as a foreign agent of the Pro-Kremlin RT TV channel.
As the member of the Commission for the protection of the sovereignty Oleg Morozov, the list includes media that “getting money from abroad” and “interfering in Russia’s internal politics.”
“If you limit the signal [RT] — we will limit too [the signal of foreign media in Russia], if will break existing contracts with the Internet resources that provide a platform for RT — so, similar measures would be adopted in Russia. Take control of employees ‘personal information — we take control of employees’ personal data relevant to foreign media,” – said Morozov.
