Pakistani authorities have arrested ten people for participating in the so-called “honor killing” of a young couple who got married without first getting formal permission from their relatives, as required in accordance with traditional tribal ceremonies.
The tragedy occurred in the city of Karachi. The victims were 24-year-old Abdul Hadi and 19-year-old Hasina Bibi, registered their marriage at the beginning of November, reports the Independent.
The bodies of young people were discovered on one of the local cemeteries with stab wounds. Charged with their murder arrested the father of Hadi, and nine other relatives of the couple. The girl’s father is still hiding from law enforcement.
All those arrested have confessed to the crime, saying that the murder was committed by decision of the local tribal Council for the breach of a guy and girl Pashtun traditions.
According to some estimates, every year in Pakistan, victims of “honour killings” committed by close relatives, to become thousands of women.
