H. valdés was a respected journalist in the city and has published several books about the drug trade, crime and its impact on communities, reported in the weekly Valdez, where he worked as a journalist.
Mexican President Enrique peña Nieto expressed his condolences to the family and friends of H. Valdez.
“I confirm our commitment to freedom of expression and of the press, which are fundamental to our democracy,” said E. Nieto.
H. Valdez also was a correspondent for La Jornada in Sinaloa and worked with the news Agency AFP.
“We mourn this tragedy and offer condolences to the family of Javier and people close to him. We urge the Mexican authorities to shed light on this cowardly murder,” – said General Director of AFP, Michele Leridon.
