In Lviv want to “modernize” the Soviet Monument of Glory

The demolition of the monument had not yet been discussed.

Administration of Lviv began to discuss the future of the monument of Glory, head of the city Andriy Sadovy suggested that it should be modified.

So, decided what to do with the huge Soviet memorial. In the framework of the law on de-communization, the symbols of the totalitarian forces are removed from public space. However, in this case, the expert confirmed that he is not a Communist symbol of the struggle against the German occupation, and Vice versa – this is the symbol of the German occupation. Thus, the demolition is not yet to be discussed.

The monument was opened in may 1970. It is located in the upper part of the Central Park of culture and rest, near the Academy of the land forces.

The ensemble consists of 30-metre-high pylons, a bronze of the Central group and massive granite stele with large reliefs from forged copper. On the vertical pole – reliefs symbolizing the main types of troops: infantry, tank, artillery, pilot, sailor.
