In Lithuania arrived German armored vehicles

20 infantry fighting vehicles Marder and six tanks of the Leopard 2 today, 24 February, came from Germany to Lithuania.

By rail a division of heavy equipment of the Bundeswehr was delivered to the station Sestokai, where the equipment will be transported to the place of permanent deployment – to the military base Rukla. Thus, Germany has completed the material security of the military base in Rukla. Since mid-January in Lithuania was sent 120 containers of military cargo and 200 vehicles. On the basis of already are about 300 German soldiers, another 150 will be relocated there soon.

At the July NATO summit a decision was taken to transfer four battalions on the Eastern flank in the Baltics and Poland to guarantee their security against the background of Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Germany will exercise command of the international allied NATO battalion in Lithuania with total population will reach about 1,200 people. USA will command in Poland, the British in Estonia, and the Canadians in Latvia.
