In Italy tourists face fines for the “wrong” shoes

The penalty can be up to 2,500 euros.

In Italy threaten to penalize tourists for what they go through scenic trails of the Cinque Terre in flip-flops, sandals or other inappropriate footwear.

The penalty can be up to 2,500 euros.

Rescuers complain that they are tired of wearing incorrectly to rescue tourists who get stuck on steep slopes and narrow paths of the area.

“The problem is that people come here thinking that they are on the coast, but the trail is more like a mountain,” – said the head of the Cinque Terre national Park, Patrizio Scarpellini.

With the aim of informing tourists in fishing villages located on the territory of the Cinque Terre, you will distribute the posters and leaflets. Police and national Park will also check the shoes of the visitors before will begin to issue fines for those who ignore warnings.

Rescuers from neighboring Genoa’s say that they often cause to help tourists in distress in the Cinque Terre. Rescue helicopters cost the Italian emergency services up to five thousand euros per hour.

At that time, as Cinque Terre is preparing for the upcoming holiday season, authorities expect the problem will only get worse. The number of visitors this year is expected to double, in particular, will increase the number of tourists from China.

Scenic region captures 2.5 million visitors a year. 450 thousand of them arrived in the summer of last year. This year, in the period from April to September is expected 750 million visitors.

In the last few years a growing number of tourists has drawn criticism from locals and vacationers who remain in the region for a longer period.

Given this, discussions have arisen about limiting access to the coastal trails of the region. But since the travel industry is extremely lucrative, the real solutions of the debate failed.
