Archaeologists have found in Mosul in Iraq, the Assyrian Palace, built in the year 600 BC.
Archaeologists who worked in the destroyed Shrine in Mosul, stumbled upon a previously unknown Palace, built in the VI century BC. Monumental discovery was to provide a new understanding of the Assyrian Empire.
However, the scientists also are worried that many important artifacts were destroyed by fighters of group “Islamic state”* that desecrated the Palace.
Iraqi archaeologists had to explore the tomb of the prophet Jonah, which was partially damaged after the attack in 2014. The researchers found that the tunnels were dug under the sacred place. This means that the extremists were trying to find ancient artifacts.
Professionals interested in Assyrian stone sculptures. Professor Eleanor Robson suggested that they were used to decorate women’s rooms in the Palace.
