Eight people struggling to survive in conditions close to the conditions on the red planet. The authors of the experiment were NASA specialists.
“Colonists” settled in a two-storey building with a roof in the form of a dome. It was built on the slope of active volcano Mauna Loa, at a height of 2.5 km above sea level. Surrounding the base of the landscape is very reminiscent of the Martian hills and craters.
This is the fifth mission. It started in January of this year. The experiment involved eight volunteers who have been carefully selected. For eight months they will have to abandon the fresh air of the earth and the earth’s Goodies, and also to stop any communication with the outside world, including family.
They are forbidden to “go” outside the base without spacesuits, and communication with the commanders of the they will only support using walkie-talkie on the special channel. Apparently, mobile communication will also have to forget. Yes radio response messages will arrive only 20 minutes later, and even later, because 20 minutes, the signal from Earth reaches Mars. Thus, the organizers of the experiment intend to achieve maximum reliability.
