Archaeologists have discovered the place where the Greek fleet gathered before the battle of Salamis against the Persians in 480 BC, after found the antiquities in the waters of the Gulf of Ampelakia.
“It was a commercial and possibly military port of the classical and Hellenistic city-state of Salamis, the largest and closest to the Athenian state, after three ports in Piraeus. This is the place where at least a part of the United Greek fleet gathered before the great battle of Salamis,” said the authors of the findings.
