The Minister of defence of Georgia Levan Izoria has called the training of servicemen of the Russian military base in the occupied Abkhazia as a violation of international law.
He said this to journalists.
“Any activity in the occupied territories, that is, on our territory, especially from a military point of view, is unconstitutional and illegal,” – said the Minister. According to him, these actions are condemned by the international community.
Press service of the southern military district (SMD) announced on August 24 that the 18 polygons of the North Caucasus and southern Russia began the exercises of the missile forces with the participation of more than 11,000 soldiers and more than 2200 pieces of equipment complexes “Iskander-M” . The training will last until September 16. They are, including on the Russian military bases in occupied South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Foreign Minister of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze declared that conducting Russian exercises in the North Caucasus “is not conducive to peace and security in the region.”
