In Geneva, Toyota promises to surprise with new model

New hot hatchback follows in the footsteps of the earlier proposed versions and the Turbo Yaris T-Sport.

The prefix “GRMN” in the model name stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring, and stresses the importance of cooperation with Toyota team Gazoo Racing. In the past, this name is used only for the domestic market, but now it appeared in the name of the global model. Although this label is not as popular as the “GTI” or “Type R”, it is perfect for a hot supermini, for GRMN did a lot for Lexus RC F, LFA and Toyota GT 86 that participated in the 24-hour race. The team is now working with crossover C-HR.

It is not surprising that “livery” racing team became a part of the transformation of a hot Yaris. In the images you notice a lower suspension, larger wheels (probably 17 inch), a revised rear bumper with the centered exhaust pipe and mounted on the rear wing doors a La the JCW GP.

New hot hatchback follows in the footsteps of the earlier proposed versions and the Turbo Yaris T-Sport. But the most interesting is located in the engine compartment. It’s not a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a 1.8-liter unit with a supercharger, with the stated capacity of “more than 210 HP”, which is a bit more than the rivals, the Clio RS, Corsa OPC or 208 GTI. Although the automaker did not specify which box will be offered in a hot version, I guess it will be a 6-speed “mechanics”.

Toyota is not often pleases its hot hatchbacks, so I had to use Google to recall the last time such a model had a 1.8-liter engine in 2002. It was a Corolla T Sport with performance of 192 HP Turbine? No. … VTEC or VVTL-I, as they called it. Was in that era and the Yaris T Sport, but he had a 1.5-liter 105 “horses”.
