Egyptian archaeologists opened the sarcophagus of a goldsmith, who lived 3 thousand years ago. This grave was discovered near the city of Luxor.
Haleth al-Anani, Minister of the cultural heritage of Egypt, confirmed a sensational discovery: “the Burial was made during the 18th dynasty and dates back to 15 BC.”
“Work has not been completed and discoveries continue,” he told reporters.
The burial includes a courtyard with niches in which are statues of the jeweler amenemhat, his wife and one of his sons and two burial rooms. Mummies, sarcophagi, funerary masks, made of wood and elaborately painted, in good condition. Egyptian antiquity is carefully crafted and put up for review.
Earlier this year, Egyptian scientists reported that they had unearthed the burial, the judges of the New Kingdom period. Swedish archaeologists also found near Aswan 12 cemeteries.
Egyptian authorities hope the new findings will help to again attract tourists to the country. Violent protests against President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, marred the reputation of a hospitable country.
