In Egypt found a unique object

A unique object on the territory of the necropolis of DRA Abu El-Nagga in the valley of the kings archaeologists have found Spanish the Djehuty project.

According to the first exemplary Dating, garden about four thousand years.

It was created in the reign of the pharaohs of the XII dynasty. Throughout their reign Egypt regained its status as a strong stable state, lost in the First transition period. During the twelfth dynasty the Egyptians had restored and expanded an extensive network of irrigation canals. Pharaohs annexed the new territory, including part of the gold-rich Nubia. Again began the construction of the pyramids.

The garden was part of the funerary complex: it was located at the entrance to the stone tomb and stood in the open area in front of the tomb on a small half-meter elevation. The object is not similar to “garden” in the modern sense. Its size is small — only 3 x 2 metres, it is divided into rectangular cells with an area of about 30 cm2 each. Two sectors in the center just above the rest: archaeologists suggest that they could grow small trees. What plants the Egyptians were planted in this garden will show the residue analysis of seeds found in the soil.

Scientists knew about the existence of these gardens before they are depicted on funerary murals in tombs. However, to detect the remnants of such structures, scientists were able for the first time.

According to archaeologists, their discovery can tell us about many aspects of life of the ancient Egyptians. The garden setting will show previously unknown features of Egyptian funerary ritual. For example, in the corner of the garden stood a Bush of tamarisk, which was found a bowl of dates — perhaps they were left there as offerings to the dead. Information about what plants grow in the garden, will talk about the ecology of the period, and the symbolism of plants in the burial rites. It is known that the palm tree and evergreen Perseus Egyptians considered a symbol of rebirth and was used in funerary practice. The study of seeds from the garden will complement these data.

The gardens were part of burial rituals not only in Egypt. Developed a tradition of funerary garden existed in Rome, specially designed gardens were surrounded by Indian mausoleums of the era of the Mughal Empire. Discovery in DRA Abu El-Nagga — one of the earliest examples of this tradition.
