In Denmark, archaeologists during excavations found a large building of ancient settlement of the Vikings. The researchers believe that it was the tower from which the Lord was watching over their employees.
The structure reaches a height of ten meters. Next to it are other large buildings, which probably had a ritual significance. Age built about 1300 years. Scientists believe that it was erected at the entrance to the large village.
– You would not be able to see from the tower over large distances. But well you will see the river valley. From the ground you would never see it, says an expert from the Danish national Museum DENSO Mads Jessen.
In the process of research findings and its structure, historians have concluded that the building performed function to a high observation tower. However, the tower structure is not typical of the architecture of the Vikings, which makes finding one in this kind.
At the same time, the excavation site also found coins, jewelry and other artifacts. This suggests that the local Vikings maintained close contacts with the West of Europe.
