Archaeologists have found the military citadel of the XIII century in South-Western China.
Chinese scientists discovered fragments of walls and gates belonged to the monumental fortress of Baidi.
Excavations were carried out near the city of Chongqing. For the 6 months of work of the archaeological expedition found 20 sites of the ancient city wall, fragments of gates and towers, and antique armories.
Scientists believe that the wall and gate was built during the reign of the southern song dynasty 1127-1279 in to the domination of the Qing dynasty, which ruled from 1644 to 1912. According to experts from the Institute of Cultural heritage of Chongqing, have unearthed more than 300 relics. Among them iron weapons, and artifacts of copper, stone and ceramics.
Scientists figured out the layout of Baidi. In addition, they realized that the ruins of the fortress before coincided with the busy trade route that connected Central China with the southwest provinces, which bordered on Tibet.
