The construction of storages in the exclusion zone is carried out by US technology.
In Ukraine officially started the construction of Centralized repository for spent nuclear fuel (csfsf) at the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
It is expected that this warehouse will be able to accommodate waste from three of the four Ukrainian nuclear power plants and safely store them for a hundred years.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the representatives of the Ukrainian government, “Energoatom”, manufacturer of equipment for the fuel storage company Holtec and the United States Embassy in Ukraine.
“The construction of this warehouse will allow Ukraine to reduce energy dependence on Russia and will save billions of dollars that could be invested, for example, in the energy sector,” said U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch.
In addition, the Minister of energy of Ukraine Igor Nasalik said that Ukraine spends more than $ 200 million to pay for the removal of used nuclear fuel to Russia.
The Ukrainian storage facility, plans to complete before the end of 2019.
