Deputies believe that the conductors of the OUN-UPA was unjustly deprived of the honorary title.
The decision to appeal to the President Petro Poroshenko with an appeal to return the conductor of the OUN-UPA Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych the title “Hero of Ukraine” took Chernivtsi city Council.
The corresponding decision today at the regular session of the city Council was supported by 22 deputies (the total number of deputies – 42).
The appeal notes that in 2011 “at the direction of the then presidential Administration and direct supervision of agents of the state-aggressor – the Russian Federation Bandera and Shukhevych was deprived of the title Hero of Ukraine”.
“The restoration of the title of hero of Ukraine to Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych is not only a requirement of restoration of historical justice, but also one of the demands of the revolution of Dignity” – said in the text of the appeal.
“The bulk of Chernivtsi need to restore historical justice and return to Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych the title of Hero of Ukraine. It is high time to show the real state of Affairs in the legal instruments of the state”, – stated in the appeal to Poroshenko.
In August 2011 the Supreme administrative court upheld the previous decision of Donetsk courts, which recognized illegal the decree of President Viktor Yushchenko on awarding Shukhevych and Bandera honors “Hero of Ukraine”.
