On the territory of the ancient Citadel in Chernigov archeologists found an ancient lime kiln.
This was announced by the head of archaeological expedition, associate Professor of Chernihiv national pedagogical University. T. Shevchenko, candidate of historical Sciences Elena Chernenko on his page in Facebook.
“The most interesting object, unfortunately, poorly preserved, oven for burning lime (not to be confused with the lime pit). Similar production facility in Chernigov discovered for the first time. For Ancient Russia in General there are only a few such buildings,” wrote archaeologist.
In conversation with the correspondent of UKRINFORM Chernenko added that the furnace at the time was a 3-foot mine, which produced lime for building.
According to her, another interesting finding of the current excavations – Adobe oven that was used by the owners for quite some time and been repaired at least 8 times.
Archaeologists have found and part of the note (graffiti) from the past on the wall of the amphora. As noted Chernenko, fragments of amphorae and imported glassware – traces of former luxury.
According to the head of the expedition, excavations carried out on the territory of the former Chernihiv fortress of the ancient Citadel, which was founded in the tenth century, and where for many centuries concentrated urban life. At the end of June, on the third day from the beginning of research, archaeologists found the remains of a furnace of the XIV century, the ancient axe and jail for fishing. Thus, the ancient place of settlement in General, already found the remains of three furnaces.
Excavations on the territory of Chernihiv rampart are to the implementation of the regional target program of archaeological research in the Chernihiv region for 2013-2020, with the assistance of the National historical and architectural reserve “ancient Chernihiv”. The study was ordered by the Chernigov regional historical Museum named after V. V. tarnovskyi.
