“In early August, the court ruled that “the arrest in absentia” Statkevich for 15 days. Thus, it is unknown how long the opposition leader will remain in custody”, – is spoken in the message.
It is noted that on 9 August the court sentenced Statkevich to administrative detention for 15 days on charges of participation in an unsanctioned rally on 3 July in Minsk. Then, the Day of independence of Belarus, about two hundred people came out to March against the joint exercises “West-2017”. The opposition leader also urged supporters to come out in protest in early September.
Statkevich was a candidate for the presidency in 2010. After the election, he accused President Alexander Lukashenko of rigging the vote, was arrested and served five years in prison.
