A unique find was discovered in the Church of St. Nicholas.
As you know, the way Santa Claus or Nicholas was a Christian Saint in the IV century BC and he was canonized for his great kindness towards the poor children. His legendary habit of giving gifts to children has inspired people to create the kind grandfather in a red suit and white beard.
Historical records say that Nicholas was buried in the Church built in his honor, but the location of the body of the Saint has always been a mystery. The head of the Department for protection of monuments of Antalya Kamil Karabinem reported that the find was discovered by a team of workers during the exploration of the underground vault of the Church.
“Getting there was difficult because on the floor was an ancient mosaic that is a valuable monument of the past. I had to carefully remove one tile after another,” – said the researcher.
To study unique findings already gathered a team of experts: it must first extract from the crypt and check, whether the found remains belong to the Holy one. In the past there were rumors that some of the bones were stolen by Italian merchants in medieval times, but archaeologists do not believe in the truthfulness of this theory.
