Archaeologists have discovered a piece of amber, which preserved the drops of blood parasites of ancient primates that lived in the tropical regions of the Earth about 20-30 million years ago.
The researchers ‘ findings were published in the Journal of Medical Entomology. In the study, researchers found “live” cells of ancient mammals, one of the first primates and their parasites living inside and outside their bodies.
As scholars have noted, the opening of these amber pieces and drops of blood in them has confirmed that ticks of the genus Amblyomma are parasitic on primates for at least 20-30 million years and are the main carriers of diseases and other parasites equally long time. Monkeys, achemasia of each other’s body from ticks were infected with Babesia – celled parasites, the causative agents of the so-called “Texas fever.”
In its symptoms the disease is similar to malaria, but it affects not only humans and primates, but also cattle. Like malaria, Babesia infection can lead to death if left untreated.
The study found fragments of amber will help you understand when there was Babesia and other single celled parasites and the role they played in human evolution.
