NASA released a beautiful photo of the Black sea, taken from the orbit of the Earth, where the visible territory of Ukraine.

It is noted that often in the summer in the Black sea appear pearly shades. Turquoise swirls in the photo is the phytoplankton bloom that follows the water currents.
It is emphasized that this picture is made by MODIS satellite during its passage over the region of the Earth.
Phytoplankton is the basis of the food chain in marine ecosystems. However, his frequent blooms can result in eutrophication – oxygen depletion of water and, ultimately, complicate the life of marine organisms.
A type of phytoplankton commonly found in the Black sea, are coccolithophore – plankton, which is covered with white calcium carbonate. When this plankton begins to appear in large numbers, these reflecting plates visible from space as a bright, lactic water.
