The deputies of the Hungarian Parliament refused to meet with Ukrainian MPs to discuss the adopted law on education, which attracted criticism from the Hungarian side.
This was stated by first Vice-speaker of the Parliament Irina Gerashchenko (“BPP”).
“Last week the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, quite a large delegation was in Budapest at the event organized by the Council of Europe on Istanbul Convention… offered to meet with the deputies of the Hungarian Parliament to discuss the question of the law. Unfortunately, our colleagues refused such a meeting,” — said Gerashchenko during a meeting of the conciliatory Council of leaders of parliamentary factions.
The education act, which Parliament adopted on September 5, specifically provides that from 1 September 2018 with grade 5 children will start to learn things only in Ukrainian, and the language of national minorities will be studied only as a separate discipline. From 1 September 2020 education will be fully Ukrainian. Including the Junior classes.
These innovations have caused the sharp criticism of neighboring countries of Ukraine. Seven countries have criticized a new draft law “On education”. We are talking about Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Greece and Russia.
For example, in Hungary stated that, due to the establishment in Ukraine of the law on education with the destruction of the education in the languages of national minorities to block and veto any proposal for Ukraine’s rapprochement with the European Union.
In addition, the state Duma said about the ethnocide in Ukraine because of the law on education.
In response to a strong reaction at the international level, in Kiev said that the language provisions in the new law on General secondary education and training programs “will be refined”.
