Researchers analyzed information about 3.7 million people, whose average age is 64 years. The authors of the study emphasized the need to evaluate the diet of patients with peripheral arterial disease, counselling them about healthy eating and public awareness of the importance of eating vegetables and fruits.

The results of the study are extremely important for the population, since such simple factors as the introduction of fruits and vegetables in the diet can have a strong influence on the prevalence of peripheral artery disease. This is especially important for current and former smokers who fall into the category of high risk of developing this disease.
