Heads or tails: election results determined by flipping a coin

Candidates were not against such a solution.

Elections to city Council of a small town in Connecticut, whose population is 5000 people, ended with the coin tosses. And it’s not just a tradition but a way of decision-making regarding the candidacy of city Council member.

In the first round of the election, both candidates – Republican Michael Ermita and Democrat Kim Miller scored an equal number of votes for 718 each.

According to the town Charter from the situation, it is possible to find a solution, tossing a coin. And Ermita, and Miller agreed to the procedure, because another round of elections would cost about $ 3,000 each.
