Grapefruit juice helps stop cancer

Juice is non-toxic and no risk of overdose, which makes it a great candidate for a therapeutic agent, scientists say.

Drinking grapefruit juice can increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs, as this juice can increase the concentration of drugs, reported U.S. researchers from the University of Chicago.

Scientists have tested the juice of grapefruit for cancer means “Sirolimus”, with the participation of 138 volunteers with an incurable form of cancer. As shown in the experiment, the juice actually increased the concentration of the drug with minimal side effects.

It is known that grapefruit juice inhibits the activity of enzymes that break down drugs, including “Sirolimus”, the calcium channel blockers and statins. This allowed for the duration of the experiment to slow the progression of the disease in volunteers. The researchers also found that different kinds of juice differed in effectiveness depending on the concentration of the active component – furanocoumarin. Juice is non-toxic and no risk of overdose, which makes it a great candidate for a therapeutic agent, scientists say.
