Google will fight with low quality advertising

Google будет бороться с низкокачественной рекламойGoogle will launch its own ad blocker for Chrome in early 2018

Over the last six months they have received many reports that Google is preparing its own ad blocker for Chrome. The company confirmed the rumors, but it turned out that developing it is not quite what was expected.

Google joined the “Coalition for better advertising” (Coalition for Better Ads), a group that promotes standards to improve advertising for clients. It prohibits full-page ads, advertising with the emergent sound and flashing message. In the beginning of 2018 in Chrome will no longer receive advertising that does not meet the standards of the organization.

In other words, Google uses Chrome to reduce the income of sites that show poor quality ads. This means that the built-in ad blocker ultimate will be enough. On the website there is no advertising, if at least one ad does not meet the standards. Accordingly, if the coalition is approved, all of it will be displayed on the pages of the online resource.

The company hopes that she will stump the developers of extensions that block all ads on websites. Google agrees that such blockers are harmful to the publishers that distribute free content, and “threatening the stability of the web ecosystem”.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company will give publishers “a minimum of six months” to prepare for the changes. Google is positioning the innovation more as a filter than as a blocker. However, the feature will be enabled by default for all users.

California giant also launched a tool called Ad Experience Report. It provides website owners with screenshots and videos of annoying ads to make it easier to find it and fix.
