Google will reduce the results of sites with “Russian propaganda.” It is reported by the Motherboard with reference to the Executive Director of Google Eric Schmidt (Eric Schmidt).
According to him, the company is going to deal with the Russian sites that fall in the search results of Google News, with broadcaster RT and news Agency Sputnik. “We are trying to reconfigure the system and to prevent this,” he said at a forum on international security in Halifax (Canada).
Alphabet Executive Director noted that, despite the “spread of misinformation or worse”, Google is not going to resort to blocking sites RT and Sputnik. “We don’t work. I am strongly against censorship,” explained Schmidt.
In late October, Twitter banned the account of the Russian broadcaster RT and news Agency Sputnik to post any sponsored posts. As explained in the company, this decision was made based on the findings of the American intelligence community about the impact of these media on the U.S. presidential election. Twitter management has added that the decision was not made lightly.
20 November it became known that RT refused to register in the U.S. as invagent. According to representatives of the TV company, they will challenge the requirement of American justice.
