Google officially announced as a company fully converted to 100% renewable energy — solar and wind. The company agreed with three wind farms in South Dakota, Iowa and Oklahoma.
This was announced by Sam Arons of the Department of energy and Google’s infrastructure.
“Plus 535 MW increased the total amount of energy consumed by Google in the world, up to 3 GW — 2*98 MW Avangrid in South Dakota, 200 MW with EDF in Iowa and 138,6 MW GRDA in Oklahoma that says Google as the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy on the planet and 100% consuming renewable energy in 2017,” he writes.
First contract with a wind farm, the company signed back in 2010. To achieve the transition to 100% renewable energy, Google has signed and enters into direct contracts with the producers of such energy, simultaneously transferring their data centers more efficient model. According to the company, its data centers 50% more energy efficient than the market average.
This project on the transition to more sustainable sources of energy is not only a social value, according to Google. It is economically justified since over the last six years the cost of solar and wind energy have fallen by 80% and 60%, respectively.
We will remind, in less than 2017, more than 1200 households in Ukraine switched to solar electricity
