The experts of Quartz found hidden codes in Android OS.
Due to preset “worm” Google collects location data of its users via a cell tower, according to news agencies.
Function allegedly serves for quick text messaging. It also integrated the app ID of the Cell used to communicate data about the location even with GPS off and remote SIM card.
The information received, incidentally, a fairly high accuracy, Google includes in the data packet, which collects and stores for some time. Experts believe that thus the company gathers information for more effective display advertising.
Hackers can gain access to unique information and track the location of users. In this case we are not talking about one version of Android — probably the program was installed from the first device. The system needs only a network connection for data collection.
By the way, Google does not deny the installation of the program from January 2017, but disagree with the findings on the collection and storage of data. Also, the company promised to remove it until 2018.
