1. The spoiled fresco
The most notorious example of a failed restoration has occurred in Spain. 80-year-old Cecilia Jimenez volunteered to restore the peeling fresco of Jesus in a local Cathedral. But for some reason it came out is not similar to the original, apparently, the vision summed up the elderly woman.

4. Clarified picture
The work of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Saint Anne with the Madonna and Christ child” after the restoration began to look much brighter. If previously dominated by cloudy dark shades, now the picture looks very bright, as if the action takes place on a Sunny day. According to experts, it is contrary to the intent of da Vinci.

5. Unrecognizable Lenin

8. The Beard Of Tutankhamun

He glued a beard on an irreversible glue under that corner. However, he soiled the chin of the Tutankhamun glue and decided to scrape it, in the end, the mask was formed scratches. Fortunately, the mask was able to recover.
9. A baby with someone else’s head
The statue of the virgin Mary and baby Jesus in Sudbury, Canada, suffered from vandals — baby decapitated and somewhere took.
Artist Heather wise volunteered to sculpt a new head, but the result looked more than weird and has caused discontent of local residents.
But in the end action Heather has played a positive role: the man who stole a real head, heart trembled and he brought her back. The sculpture was restored.
Instead of an epilogue
It is worth noting that cases of unsuccessful restoration of works of art can be counted on the fingers.
But countless works of masters of the past reached the present day thanks to the hard work of the restorers. One of the obvious examples — but this sculpture of an angel at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
