Giro d’italia-2017: Landa won the mountain stage, Dumoulin lost the pink Jersey

Summing up the nineteenth stage of the hundredth version of the legendary Italian Cycling.

At the start of another heavy mountain stage formed a breakaway led by the winner of the 17th stage, Pierre Rolland, but it soon became clear that any chance this party will not. A surprise attack against pink jerseys Tom Dumoulin took command Quintana, Nibali and Pinot. The joint efforts of the fugitives broke away from the Dutch for a minute.

The pursuit of Dumoulin competitors lasted for more than 30 kilometers. When the pink tank returned to the General group, went on the attack the driver of “Astana” Luis Leon Sanchez. His effort caught Rolland, Costa, Ana and mountain king Landa.

The peloton did not let this gap and allowed him to pull in 12 minutes. It became clear that even the final hill of the first category won’t stop one of the escapees to pick up a beautiful mountain stage.

Apart alternately attacked Sanchez and Costa, but the most powerful and long leap organized a tireless Landa. The Spaniard this time did not allow any finishing sprint – racer Sky on decisive mountain the first category created for themselves such a margin that no one could encroach on his victory. Landa, the future of the mountain king Giro-2017, scored his third win in the Italian stage race. Of course, its success Landa dedicated to the former teammate Michele Scarponi.

Meanwhile, in the group of generalisimo Quintana and Nibali is once again able to escape from Dumoulin. This time the Dutchman could not keep the pink Jersey – Quintana and Nibali, Dumoulin lost more than a minute. However, the shadow Volume remains the favorite of the race, because at the last stage in Milan it is waiting for crown cutting.

The new leader of the General classification was Nair Quintana, Tom Dumoulin second, and third positions of Vincenzo nibali approached Thibaut Pinot, Ilnur Zakarin and Domenico Pozzovivo.
