Germany refused Poland as reparations

Steffen Seibert said that the problem was resolved in the postwar years.

Germany rejected the requirement of Poland regarding the new negotiations on payment of additional reparations for the years of the Second world war.

This was stated by the representative of the German government Steffen Seibert on Friday, September 8.

However, he noted that this issue had already been settled in 1953.

“In August 1953, Poland had adopted a binding decision… to refuse demands for further military reparations”, – said the representative of the German government, adding that, according to Berlin, “this issue has been settled both legally and politically.”

Seibert said that Germany fully recognizes its responsibility in the Second world war, stressing that it also paid considerable reparations for Poland for joint military damage.

On the eve of Prime Minister of Poland Szydlo said that Poland has the right to demand reparations from Germany, adding that the Polish government still defines its official position about this.
