Most people trust scientists unconditionally, especially without thinking about the fact that science by definition doesn’t prove anything. Sometimes the job of a scientist is merely to refute the results of the work of their colleagues. That is why science progresses. But today there are many seemingly obvious and straightforward things that scientists have not been able to understand.
1. How to eat
Although today people have a General idea of what is good and what is bad from the point of view of write, scientists still nothing so not officially recognized. Yes and diet with each decade varies quite significantly.
2. What is the core of the Earth
It would seem that well-known is the fact that the Earth’s inner core solid and the outer core is liquid, and they consist mainly of Nickel and iron. But who ever saw or got to the core through the mantle.
3. Why do people yawn
No one is completely sure why humans yawn. While regarding this there are several theories, most of them have been refuted.
4. The mechanism of the Earth’s magnetic field
Scientists don’t have a clue how the Earth’s core produces a magnetic field. They also don’t know why the polarity of the magnetic field varies periodically. Actually, people know more about what’s going on inside the Sun than what is happening inside the Earth.
5. Whether fingerprints are unique
It would seem that it is an axiom, and even in criminology, looking for criminals by finger prints. However, the researchers calmly found the people whose fingerprints were so similar that even scanners are unable to tell the difference.
6. Effect MacClintock
It is the name of the phenomenon where women living together or in contact daily for long periods of time, synchronized menstrual cycles. Explanation of the phenomenon is not.
7. Why people sleep
In fact, scientists are not sure why people need sleep. Of course, people get tired, but you can rest and without sleep. Therefore, there are only assumptions concerning this phenomenon.
8. The moon is too big
Although there are many theories, it is not known why the Earth is so big the satellite. In fact, if the Earth had no moon, the axial wobble of the planet would be a much more strong, including a threat to life itself on Earth. How can assure astronomers, so large satellite, which stabilizes the planet, is potentially very rare in the Universe.
9. Black holes and the Schwarzschild radius
As everyone knows, they exist in theory, but no one has still not convincingly proved it. In order to do this, you need to prove how a certain amount of mass can exist within a given radius (known as the Schwarzschild radius).
10. What are the benefits of vitamin C
There is evidence that vitamin C actually does nothing. Supposedly this vitamin can prevent colds, but at the time it was useless. Whether this is so is unknown.
11. Why ice is slippery
It would seem ridiculous, but scientists don’t know why ice is slippery. To be more precise, it is known that it is slippery due to a thin layer of liquid on the surface of the ice, just scientists are not sure why such a layer is formed only on the ice, and other solids are not. There are several hypotheses regarding the density, pressure and low melting point, but the consensus is still no.
12. How to work anesthetics and antidepressants
At least some of them (e.g., nitric oxide). The question is, “prevent”, whether they actually experience pain during the surgery or simply interfere with the recollection of that pain. Same situation is with antidepressants all know that they work, but don’t know how. The human brain is incredibly complex, and there is still a lot of work to understand how it works.
13. The mechanism of stabilization of a Bicycle
Another question which sounds silly, but this is actually something of a dilemma in physics. Scientists still don’t understand the exact mechanism that causes the stabilization of the Bicycle when it is accelerating.
14. Consciousness
You should start with the fact that no one even knows what it is. How can we understand how “it” works if you do not know what it is.
15. The mechanisms of gravity and magnetism
And again the same thing. All know what gravity is, but nobody knows how and why it works. Also still to be elucidated the exact mechanism by which magnetism works.
