Intelligence officers forced people to espionage, and in return promised not to pay attention to criminal cases.
The Federal security service of Russia has recruited at least five people who were smuggling on the Russian-Estonian border and forced them to spy in favour of Russia.
This is stated in a joint investigation by BuzzFeed News and Re:Baltica.
According to journalists, employees of the intelligence agencies forced people to espionage, and in return promised not to pay attention to criminal cases on smuggling. Not wishing to get a long prison term the men went to deal.
So, the spies were instructed to gather information about the Estonian military bases, the schedule of patrolling of the border, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of employees of the Estonian security Police.
Also the article notes that two of the detainees had dual citizenship (Russia and Estonia), all five have signed contracts with the FSB and they were paid 2 thousand rubles.
The FSB has not yet commented on this material by the Western media.
