From January 1, Poland took the place of Ukraine in the UN security Council

Poland became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from Eastern Europe.

From 1 January 2018 Poland became a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations from Eastern European countries instead of Ukraine. It will clinstat in the UN security Council for two years, reports Polish radio.

Noted that the Polish side will participate in conversations and decisions regarding important issues of global security, however, the real impact of the UN on these matters every year more and more limited.

In addition to Poland, from 1 January in the group of non-permanent members are, in particular, Kuwait, Peru and the Republic of côte d’ivoire. It is reported that Poland is a non-permanent member of the UN security Council for the sixth time. Previously performed this task in 1996-1997. However, in practice, the UN is very limited.

Most resolutions have the character of an appeal to respect the international order, and more controversial actions often block the permanent members of the UN with veto power. In recent years, most resolutions on Syria vetoed supportive of the Damascus Russia.
