The environmental situation in the Donbass remains extremely dangerous and requires an immediate response from both local and Central authorities of Ukraine and the world community. “Should strengthen the world’s attention to environmental challenges and issues, to demand access of international experts to all companies that have hazardous production in the temporarily occupied territories, and which are now taken over by the invaders and fighters,” – said Gerashchenko after a meeting in the government.
According to her, the international partners of Ukraine in Normandy format, ready to assist in the examination of the ecological situation in the mines, conducting evacuation and recovery operations, delegating to the team.
“But the other side does not give access to experts – and it can end up very serious environmental disaster,” she said.
According to her, no less difficult situation with companies near the contact line due to constant shelling by militants.
“The Ukrainian negotiators in Minsk, has repeatedly raised the issue of the regime of silence for the repair and rehabilitation works for the enterprises located close to the demarcation line. However, the Russian Federation and ORDO warranties and do not give possibility normally to carry out this work. Particularly acute problem is Tureckogo for phenolic plant, Avdeevka coke plant, and other strategic infrastructure facilities,” she said.
“We are preparing the assessment of the impact of flooded and flooded mines. And it is sure to be the responsibility of the occupants. For each destroyed Ukrainian enterprises”, – said Gerashchenko.
