The world is filled with amazing.
Planet Earth is unique though, because it is the only Solar system planet, in which there is life. And although science in recent decades is developing simply by leaps and bounds, there are many facts about our planet that seem incredible and which the scientists never found an explanation.
1. “Earth group”
Most people know that the Earth is the only planet in the Solar system with an atmosphere that can support life (as well as where both oxygen and water). The majority of people have no idea that the Earth is one of the four planets “terrestrial” (rocky surface, small size and weight). Three other planets belonging to this group are Venus, Mars and mercury.
2. Surface
Surprising, but still people are not explored much of Earth. About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and oceans are largely unexplored (actually, studied about 5% of the oceans). And among these 5% were identified more than 200,000 marine species… one has only to imagine what lurks in unexplored 95%.
3. Fresh water
Despite the fact that a large part of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, 68% of fresh water on Earth is constantly in a frozen state. This “polar caps” and glaciers.
4. The highest point
Mount Everest is not technically the highest point on Earth. Because the Earth is not quite round, then the objects near the equator is slightly “higher” or closer to outer space than objects located further from the equator. Thus, the mountain Chimborazo in Ecuador at 2743 meters below Everest, measuring from sea level. However, due to the “convexity” of the equator, its peak is actually located approximately 2,400 metres further from the Earth’s center than the summit of Everest.
Black flower
In nature there are no true black colors, they just don’t grow on this planet. All “black” flowers are actually painted in deep shades of purple or red, some so deep that the human eye perceives them as black.
6. Tides
Tides are caused by moon. The orbit of the moon affects the sea level, which leads to the appearance of the tides. Also the tides can be caused by moonquakes (i.e., earthquakes on the moon). Ie, if Earth had its natural satellite, then it there would be no tides.
7. The underwater relief
The biggest mountain range and the deepest valley are under water in the ocean. For example, the bottom of the Mariana trench (which were able to visit three people) is 11 kilometers below the ocean surface. As it turned out, despite the insane pressure the whole water column, there is.
8. Surface topography
Despite these heights and depths, the average Earth’s surface is quite smooth. Considering how large our planet (the circumference is 40 075 kilometers), such “bumps” on it almost invisible. If the Earth was small enough that it could take in hand, it would seem to be as smooth as a bowling ball.
9. Meteorites
Antarctica – one of the best places to search for meteorites. This has less to do with the fact that there are more falls, but rather with the fact that the meteorites in this place can be pretty easy to find due to the lack of vegetation and large amounts of snow. In Antarctica found more meteorites than anywhere else.
10. Boiling river
On the Ground there is the boiling river. In the Peruvian tropical forest, the local shaman looks after the sacred healing place Miantiao. In the area Mayantoc there is a river with a length of 6.5 kilometers on the name Shanay-timesca. The water temperature in it reaches 92 degrees Celsius, and in some parts the water is boiling. Needless to say that to fall in this river is not worth it.
11. “Singing dunes”
At least 30 different places on Earth there are sand dunes that … sing. They sing and wheezing, and it sounds like a cross between a buzzing swarm of bees and singing of the monks. No one knows why this happens.
12. Surface gravity
Due to the large amount of heavy elements in the Earth (lead, uranium, etc.) Earth is the densest planet in the Solar system. And this contributes to the fact that the Earth has the strongest surface gravity of any rocky objects (planets, dwarf planets, or satellites) in the Solar system.
13. The moon
The moon is huge compared to the size of the Earth (in this it differs from the satellites of other planets in the Solar system). Most scientists think that its a similar size due to the fact that once the Moon was part of Earth. The theory goes that millions of years there was a violent secession of a part of the planet (probably as a result of a collision with another large cosmic body), which eventually became the Moon.
14. Irinochka storm
On Earth there is a place where the storm can be seen every night. In the North-West of Venezuela, the Catatumbo river empties into lake Maracaibo and it is here that every night happens the afternoon. Moreover, local thunderstorms can last up to ten hours and, on average, at this time the zip beat 30 times per minute.
15. Cosmic dust
Every year, the Land falls 40 000 tonnes of cosmic dust. It’s made of oxygen, Nickel, iron, carbon and other elements. It is literally star dust. The planet is covered with it, and everyone breathes it.
